What Is Keyword Density

Keyword density has become a hot topic in the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) arena lately. Is the implementation of large volumes of LSI keywords the best way to create a successful, or even profitable, website? There are plenty of skeptics out there who strongly believe that employing large volumes of keyword stuffing in a bid to create a site with low competition is an ineffective way to boost traffic and rankings. The general consensus amongst these individuals is that, for every high paying, but high competition niche, the best way to succeed in that niche is by utilizing highly competitive, but highly targeted, keyword phrases that naturally carry enough volume to keep the site’s search engine positioning consistent throughout the hierarchy of major search engines.

The Internet has been providing a free medium for anyone who wishes to promote their website to the masses since its inception. But the traditional and often noble role of SEO, or search engine optimization, has changed drastically in recent years. Over the past decade, we have witnessed the rise of websites attempting to make a quick buck by stuffing the search engines. These individuals will take any opportunity they can find to generate as much website traffic as possible without taking the time to properly define the goals of their website. In most cases, this is done through high-volume keyword phrases that are rarely used on the market. The end result of these so called ‘keyword spammers’ is often a site that will not rank on the first page of the major search engines, but will instead remain relegated to the lower positions in the rankings, because their popularity is driven solely by organic search engine marketing, which is completely different than pay-per-click advertising.

While the concept of keyword density is an important aspect of search engine optimization, many people seem to confuse the term with keyword stuffing. Keyword density, in general, simply refers to the number of keywords that are contained within a web page. So in order to effectively optimize your website for the major search engines, it is necessary to strategically focus on keyword placement in each of your pages, and not to rely solely on large volumes of highly competitive, but “easy” key phrases.
